2021

Shows are planned for September - gallery and visiting artists - NonLandscape Landscapes, October - Mary Walker - Strange Characters, November - Jennie Summerall, and December - Ann Igoe - Figures.  We will leave Broad Street December 31 with a 2022 opening date at our own building at 38 Queen to be determined.

2020

Reopening in October, we held the shows planned for spring in the fall with appointment based openings.  April and May's shows have been delayed until the fall when hopefully the world will have returned to normal or rather created its new normal.

Susan Perkins' show Visual Vigil scheduled to open in March at Charleston City Gallery Waterfront was suspended due to the pandemic and is viewable by video.  (The City rehung and opened the show in the summer of 2021.)

March's show was the members of Imprimatur Charleston print group. This show was cut short for viewing in person by the pandemic caused by the coronavirus and the shutdown ordered by the city to protect we citizens.

February brought a brief showing by Dan Welden and the students at Ashley Hall who took Welden's solarplate printmaking workshop.

2019

December was a mix of gallery artists with works following the title of Black, White or Shades of Grey.

November was a duo show with John Hull and visiting artist Ed Worteck mixing paintings and photographs.

October brought new glass works by Nancy Langston in a show entitled Land, Sky and The Between.

Thrilled to have Corrie McCallum's works up for September month - despite a delay in the opening due to Hurricane Dorian coming our way, we had a great turn out.  It was also the celebration of the gallery's 14th years. Summertime was a mix of works by the gallery artists.

May brought the first Charleston solo show for native Frances Humphreys Roosevelt with her "From Landscape to Dreamscape:  Degrees of Abstraction."
We were very lucky in April to have the "Michael Tyzack: Encore - Works from 1956-2007" of this monumental British painter who worked and taught right here in Charleston.  Slow start to the year has allowed us to prepare for Mary Walker's "Jazz, Odysseus and Petroglyphs" opening March 1.

We are working on bringing more pieces to the website allowing those near and far to better view our range of offerings.

2018

The year shaped up to be a busy one with Karin Olah - Artwalk March 2, John Moore with Paul Mardikian- April 6 reception, Arthur McDonald - Artwalk May 4, Kristi Ryba- June 1 reception, Lese Corrigan - Artwalk October 5, Daphne vom Baur - November 2 reception  and Case Jernigan - Artwalk December 7 each creating new works for exhibitions.

After a quiet summer we had a great opening for "The Monk, The Goddess and the Pomegranate" of works by Lese Corrigan and are now looking forward to our November show of new works by Daphne vom Baur in a show entitled "Figures - Like Reality." The opening is November 2 from 5-8pm.  That will be followed by Case Jernigan's "Lightboxes" in December with a December 7 artwalk reception.June is exciting as it is the time to celebrate Kristi Ryba's big win at ArtFields and her new work with a reception June 1 from 5-8pm. On the later part of the evening we will also celebrate the Piccolo Spoleto Sundown Poetry reader for the evening with refreshments.

May is Arthur McDonald's series "Dharma Interpreted" with his works of handmade paper. The opening is May 4 in conjunction with the Charleston Gallery Association Artwalk. We are looking forward to these lovely, minimalist peaceful works being displayed.

April's show of John Moore's photographs paired with Paul Mardikian's paintings is a wonderful study in abstract imagery.

March brings us new works by Karin Olah in a show entitled "Beyond the Sea" with abstract paintings inspired by the light and colors of the coast.

February will also be a bit quiet and we will hang the newest works by the artists.

January will be a quiet month with no receptions but the gallery will be rehung with a mix of the gallery artists' works.

2017 summary

January 20 - February 4 - Sally Hughes Smith colorful oils - reception January 20 from 5-8 and late hours on Friday, February 3.  March - new animal collages by Jennie Summerall. May 5 - 31 Paul Mardikian's solo show entitled Fragments.  JUNE 1 NEW location - 7 Broad Street!  June 2,  finally the launch of Imprimatur Charleston - the printmakers' organization; Mary Walker's ODD Characters - September 1 with a reception that also celebrates our 12th anniversary, October 6 opening reception for Nancy Langston's CAST - pate de verre sculptures, a focus on  on Elizabeth O'Neill Verner for the month of November. Visiting artist, Meg Page will head south to show her botanicals and creatures with the show opening the first of December.

What a year 2017 has been. Thank you to all the helpers, supporters, collectors and of course the wonderful artists who make these works. We have had our most successful year to date, moved the gallery, survived a hurricane, made new friends, found new collectors, eaten too much food with the choices on Broad Street, and gained a wonderful garden that asks for constant weeding.  We are very lucky and appreciative.

We are pleased to receive Meg Page as our visiting artist for December.  Page is known for her depictions of flora and fauna of the east coast. Visit her site. Works will arrive the week after Thanksgiving and remain for several. This show was a great success and attracted a young fashion blogger who showed Page's work to her followers - galmeetsglam.com!

Our November show featuring the estate of Elizabeth O'Neill Verner was well attended with a steady crowd of viewers.  The works will slowly make their way online but come see in person.

Nancy Langston's CAST was well received and these lovely cast glass pieces are finding homes.

The gallery will participate in the Charleston Gallery Association Summer Wine Bouquet event Sunday, August 27 from 5-9pm. It will be held at the Mills House Hotel so less stroll and more visiting! We will present a demonstration and explanation of the woodcut printing process. Tickets are available at the Charleston Gallery Association  site. This is the year's replacement for the Palette and Palate Stroll.

Following will be the September 1 opening reception for Mary Walker's paintings ODD Characters. This is also the 12 anniversary celebration for the gallery and our first big opening since moving to 7 Broad Street.

In conjunction with the Charleston Gallery Association artwalk for October we will present a solo show of glass works by Nancy Langston on Friday, October 6 from 5-9 pm.

It was a well received show in January for Sally Hughes Smith - always lovely when paintings find a home!

Jennie Summerall's return to Charleston bringing her torn paper collages of animals drew a big crowd for March and half of April.

May 5 Artwalk will be the reception for Paul Mardikian's solo show Fragments, his continued study of layers and colors marking the passage of time.

June 1 will find the gallery in a new home at 7 Broad Street.  The move will take place over a week's time so please bear with us if things are not all in place or order for a bit.  We are sad to leave our sunny spot of 11 years and 9 months and happy to spend time with new neighbors and entertain in the garden we will gain!

Imprimatur Charleston is the printmakers and collectors organization we initiated in 2013 but never formally launched.  We will do this June 2 with a presentation by the collector who encouraged its formation and a show of works by the initial members.  It will be 5-8pm that Friday evening as our first show in the new space.

2016 summary

January - group show of gallery artists, February the same. March - John Moore 24 photographs, April will be new works lately arrived.  May will bring new works by Karin Olah.  June's show Rising - Neutrals,Susan Perkins and Lese Corrigan's gestural works. July 1 will be an opening for a group show by visiting artists Hirona Matsuda, Alan Jackson, Michael Hayes and Matt Dietz. July 15 we are luck to be paired with 5Church for the Palette and Palate Stroll. August's show is "What is Old is New Again" displaying works by the Charleston Renaissance artists Elizabeth O'Neill Verner, Alice Ravenel Huger Smith, Anna Heyward Taylor, Alfred Hutty and Corrie McCallum and William Halsey who formed the bridge between those earlier and Charleston's artists of today.

October brings works by Kristi Ryba.  November's exhibition is the Lowcountry works of Michelle van Parys and December's will be of Corrigan's newest works based on Charleston views entitled "(In)Spires."

2016

Michelle Van Parys's show was a success with many being drawn in the door by the black and white photographs.

Despite the interruptions and havoc wrought by Hurricane Matthew, my faithful assistants opened Kristi Ryba's show a week late albeit - to a good crowd.  Currently Extant will remain up through October - come see it!  (We were very lucky here - wish it had been so for all.)

We are looking forward to having Michelle Van Parys' work here for the first time with her black and white Lowcountry photos in Beyond the Plantations:  Images for the New South coming November 2 with an opening November 4.

July's opening for "A Response to Paper" was a great success - best crowd for a summer opening yet!

June's show Rising Neutrals introduces Susan Perkins' work - Perkins has recently moved to Charleston from Texas.  Corrigan's new ink pieces will be included.  There will be an opening June 3 including honoring that evening's Piccolo Spoleto's Sundown Poetry reader, Jaki Shelton Green.

May brings Karin Olah's "On the Water" continuing her year long theme.  Opening reception is May 6.

The March 4 opening reception features John Moore's abstract photographs of rust and other such imagery.  Moore has been photographing rust for almost 40 years!  there will be small prints and handmade books of the photographs available.

Mary Walker is included in a show in her hometown of Tryon, North Carolina. The Tryon Painters and Sculptors Spring Show is open from March 5 - April 16.  Her red suitcase project will also be shown there.

February has been fairly busy with visitors.  It is appreciated in the dreary cold month!

January showed a continuation of Karin Olah's success with work on the cover of Charleston Magazine and others illustrating an article.

2015

Richard (Duke) Hagerty's retrospective at Charleston City Gallery Waterfront was a huge success with many visitors.  His book is still available so get one now order here.

Case Jernigan returned home in December for a show of his cutouts and ink works.  Having acquired quite a reputation for his cutout animation of the "Brief History of World Soccer," we are lucky to have his pieces in the gallery.

November was a big month with Bill Buggel's works in a solo show for the first time in over a decade.  Interesting material handled masterfully.

Karin Olah is the Griffith/Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year! Reception at City Gallery Waterfront October 23 at 5 pm.  See the lovely Post and Courier interview with Olah.

Mary Walker's show will be up soon "Mysterious Questions" - reception is 5-8 on Friday, October 2 and it is a big artwalk!

Time is passing quickly this summer and September 1 is the gallery's 10th anniversary.  The gallery welcomes all to stop by for an adult lemonade from noon to 7pm that Tuesday.

October 2 will be the opening reception
Mary Walker's new paintings will be shown in October with November hosting a solo show of the abstractions by Bill Buggel based on visits to Thailand. Buggel was well know in the seventies and eighties but has been hiding out for the most part for the last decades. We are pleased to bring him back into the light.  One might also remember Buggel as the assistant director of the Gibbes Museum of Art back in 1970.  He was also a consummate photographer.

October and November there will be 2 very special shows at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park.  Karin Olah's show as the Griffith/Reyburn Lowcountry Artist for 2015 will hang for a week beginning October 23.

November 19 is the reception for the opening of Duke/Richard Hagerty's 40 year retrospective. The show will run through December. A book of his works will be published in September by Evening Post Publishing Company.

December will bring Case Jernigan back to Charleston for his second solo show with us.

Summer brought fresh new hangings in anticipation of the Palette and Palate Stroll  July 17 from 5:30 - 7:30pm.  Langdon's was our restaurant with lovely refreshing bites.   Tickets were $45 and sold out!

Lynne Riding's solo show "In the Air" was up for the month of May and the Spoleto portion of June - lovely new works in encaustic and acrylic including a clay sculpture and one paper bowl.  The ocean's atmosphere is translated into two and three dimensional objects in this work.

Our March 6 opening in conjunction with the French Quarter Gallery Association Artwalk will be for the show "Female Cuts" woodcuts by Charleston Renaissance artists and those of today including Corrie McCallum who was the bridge between the time periods.

January has been busy receiving Charleston Renaissance artist Elizabeth O'Neill Verner's etchings from her estate.  Stay tuned for the images on the site - We have also received an Alice Ravenel Huger Smith woodcut and those of Anna Heyward Taylor all to be viewed soon!

2014

December 5 celebrated a new series by Karin Olah (Knowlton).  We are looking forward to the work done since Olah moved back to Charleston in the spring!  The show is called Sea Going and the pieces are lovely.  Reception is 5-8.

Zero George a special small hotel and incredible food location has included an article by Lese Corrigan on their blog site called "Black Book" on some of the contemporary artists currently in Charleston.  There are many more artists who were not mention and deserve it.

The gallery has one spectacular piece of glass sculpture by Nancy Langston. This wall piece is a direct tie to the works of Karin Olah and our surroundings.  Come see!

Lese Corrigan had the privilege of receiving the Griffith/Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year award for her woodcuts of Charleston Single Houses.  The award included a lovely reception and showing at the Charleston Library Society.  What a privilege!  30 or more woodcuts and linocuts were displayed at the Library.

November 7 brought Daphne vom Baur back to town for a solo show entitled "Reflections of a Lotos Eater."

October 3 is Interiors - the Light Within - new works by Lese Corrigan as part of the French Quarter Gallery Association Artwalk.

The gallery remains open through the summer with changing exhibitions but it will be October before there is another reception following Palette and Palate.

Palette & Palate Stroll produced by CFADA is fast approaching July 18.  The gallery is happy to be paired again with Barsa and we will have a refreshing adult beverage ready for you. The show is "Atmosphere" with new works by Gaston Locklear and works by other gallery artists. The proceeds from this CFADA event will support supplies for the county high school art departments.  Come join us.

Looking forward to the opening of Joe Walters' new show "Look Back."  The reception is Friday, May 2 and the show remains up through Spoleto USA dates.  Our first sighting of Walters' work in 1994 was of his animals and insects in a grid at the Piccolo Spoleto juried show.  He is revisiting those concepts and images - how exciting!!! Opening March 5 with a reception Friday March 7 is Judy Hintz Cox's show "The Tao of Stillness." See the great coverage on ArtDaily.

First solo show for Charleston's own Case Jernigan entitled "Travelogue" was a hit.  Jernigan has been living and creating in New York and traveling a good bit.  These are complex small works on paper that are delightful.  Opened February 7 with a reception from 5-8pm.  See this article in Charleston City Paper.

2013

Friday, December 6 is Jennie Summerall's Metamorphoses - all new oil paintings.  The reception is from 5-8pm and the show remains up through the end of the year.  Lovely mentions on ArtMag website and Charleston Scene's art page.

Next up is the special show of Corrie McCallum's work paired with the tapestries created by her daughter Louise Halsey.  We are very privileged to have these works for the McCallum and Halsey show opening November 1 as part of the CFADA Charleston Fine Art Weekend! The reception is 5-8 pm Friday November 1 - please come see Louise and the great works.

Mary Walker's October show Myth and Morph is just around the corner.  Opening reception is October 4 as part of the French Quarter Gallery Association Artwalk.  We received a nice mention in The Charleston City Paper Fall Arts issue!

The November CFADA Fine Art Weekend will see the return of the Gibbes Museum Art on Paper Fair in which we will participate.  The gallery show opening Friday from 5-8 pm will be work by Corrie McCallum paired with the tapestries of her daughter Louise Halsey.  The Gibbes opening preview reception is Friday night at 8pm.

June brings works from Corrie McCallum's studio through a family member.  Having know Corrie and William Halsey and having visited their studio many times as well as handling their works in galleries and shows over the years, we are thrilled!

Artwalk brings two of our repeat visiting artists who are both architects.  Alan Jackson and Allan Wendt each produce monochromatic works in "black" and white.  Jackson's pieces are ink on paper while Wendt's pieces are graphite on board.  T
April brought the privilege of showing photographs by Steve Bliss, Dean of the SchoolArt at SCAD and paintings of the Robert Brothers Circus by John Hull, Chair of the Studio Art Department at the College of Charleston.  These two academicians have been friends for 25 years.  The reception on April 5 was nicely attended.

March French Quarter Artwalk was a group show of gallery artists' works depicting "Heads."

Charles Ailstock's new work in a show entitled "Theory and Practice" opened January 18.   Excited about his wonderful printwork and exploration of materials.  There is a lovely artist profile on Ailstock in the December Charleston Magazine.

2012

The last show of this year - Karin Olah's "Happy Go Lucky" opened December 7.  Olah was in town for the show.

Make sure to see "Over the Edge" with the titles taken from poems including those of two locals as well as Wallace Stevens, T.S. Eliot, William Blake and Betty Hamilton before the end of the month and read the lovely article in Charleston City Paper on Corrigan.

Lese Corrigan's show for November is "Over the Edge."  The opening November 2 from 5-8 is part of the kick off for the Charleston Fine Art Annual Weekend.  The other 7 CFADA galleries will have receptions at the same time. CFADA is partnering with the Gibbes Museum of Art for the new Art On Paper Fair during the weekend - a great new addition to the art scene and a way to collect some budget conscious works.  Make plans now for November 2-4.  See each website for details.  Come see us paint at Washington Park Saturday November 3 from 9-noon - coffee will be available for all guests!  We will auction off those paintings at the BUY ART auction Saturday evening to support art supply money for the Charleston County High School art departments. Susan Romaine has graciously agreed to join us in painting in the park as have many others.

At the Art on Paper Fair at the Gibbes, we will have works by Manning Williams, Mary Walker, John McWilliams, Lynne Riding, William Meisburger, Richard Hartnett, Nancy Marshall, Lese Corrigan, Kristi Ryba, Sue Simons Wallace, Patrick Aubert and Charles Ailstock.  All of the works at the show will not only be works on paper but created by a printmaking method with one exception.

Richard Hagerty's scarves have arrived in Charleston and you can purchase them in support of the Gibbes Museum of Art at the launch of these new pieces at Gwynn's of Mt. Pleasant Saturday November 3 from 2-5 pm.  They will continue to be available there and some at the Gibbes gift shop.

Mary Walker is one of five showcase artists for the Print Club of New York and will present her work there in December.

Kristi Ryba and Mary Walker have work in the 17th Mini Print International, a juried exhibition of prints no larger than 4"x4." The exhibition has been held biennially since 1985 and was founded and directed by Bev McLean. The Ink Shop was a host of the 15th exhibit and is now organizing the 17th and following exhibits. Juried this year by Andrea Inselmann and Minna Resnick, the show includes more than 100 of the best submissions. Printmakers from Canada, Japan, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Mexico and the US are represented.

Lynne Riding is working on her fashion portraits and is launching a new website for them - stay tuned!

Mary Walker's work hangs in "Walker and Walker," a show in the gallery Julie Heller East in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The show ran September 14-27, 2012 with a reception on Friday, September 14.

Come by for an adult lemonade Saturday, September 1 during normal hours to celebrate our seventh (7) anniversary. We will stay until 6pm if visitors are present! Thank you for all of the support through the years.

Karin Olah is back in the gallery and four pieces have arrived. She will have  a show in December entitled "Happy Go Lucky."

Duke (Richard) Hagerty's new show for October is titled "Existential Jukebox."  Lovely new works - a bit more reminiscent of his older works with the newer elements worked in.  Great turnout for the opening and excellent response to the works.  The Gibbes Museum's Society 1858 popped in for a bit of a talk by Angela Mack and Duke Hagerty about his work.

Kevin Bruce Parent has work in "Terrain" a juried show this fall presented by The Kiernan Gallery of Lexington, Virginia.

We are pleased to have Barsa Tapas as our restaurant partner for the July 13 CFADA Palette & Palate Stroll from 5:30 to 7:30pm.  That will be the month of our Southern Women Contemporary Artists' show.

The gallery will be open for the Sundown Poetry Piccolo Spoleto reception for June 1 from 5-8.

Lynne Riding has work included in the South Carolina State Museum show "Abstract Art in South Carolina: 1949-2012." A catalogue comes out soon and the show runs into late August. For more information visit.

Linda Fantuzzo will be making a guest appearance with Corrigan Gallery with a show featuring her more abstract landscapes, called "Landscape Reconfigured."  The opening reception will be Friday, May 4 from 5-8pm during the art walk.  The show will be hanging through the end of the month.  Also, Linda was interviewed by blogger Stephanie Hunt on Charleston Grit, which you can read here.

Gordon Nicholson's new work will be presented in April in a show entitled "Unmaking."  The opening is Friday April 6 from 5-8pm. See the article in Charleston City Paper April 4 issue.

March brought Paul Mardikian's third solo show - "Terra Mater" See Mardikian's profile in the January issue of Charleston Magazine.

Jennie Summerall returned to Charleston for a brief show in February from the 16th to the 28th with a body of works called "Torn" referencing her process of creation of these paper collages.  Great figures and nudes!

2011
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and Happy New Year to all. Thank you for your continued support - we appreciate all.

December was Kristi Ryba's new works' show called "The Art and Science of Memory."  The show included little jewels (7" x 4.75")  of works of egg tempera and gold leaf on vellum.  The opening reception was December 2 from 5-8 as part of the annual December French Quarter Gallery Association Artwalk.

Mary Walker's work is included in the Prints USA 2011 Springfield Art Museum show in Missouri. She won a prize for one print and the other was purchased by the museum for it's collection!

Lynne Riding's show (all new work "Scratching the Surface") is coming up with the reception during the CFADA Charleston Fine Art Weekend.  Opening is 5- 8:30pm Friday evening.  Lese Corrigan will be Painting in the Park at Washington Square Saturday from 9am to noon and that piece as well as those of the 20 other artists will be auctioned off silently during a cocktail reception that evening raising funds for the Charleston County High School art department's art supplies.

October brings Mary Walker's new works in a show called "Dreams and Nightmares." The opening reception is October 7 from 5-8 as part of the annual October French Quarter Gallery Association artwalk.

November is Lynne Riding's new works entitled "Scratching the Surface" with a reception as part of the CFADA Fine Art Weekend on November 4 from 5 - 8:30 and

December is Kristi Ryba's  “The Art and Science of Memory.”  Ryba's reception will be from 5-8 pm on December 2 and is part of the French Quarter Gallery Association Artwalk.

This summer brought Lowcountry Influence Abstracted and Lowcountry Reinterpreted, both shows by gallery artists exhibiting works about the Lowcountry - a refreshing take on our surroundings.

Palette and Palate was wonderful - just the right number of people, sunshine and snoballs paired with Cypress's lamb pastrami with Greek yogurt and watercress.  This is a Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association event - we were lucky again to have Cypress as our restaurant and Happy Camper Snoballs for refreshment! July 15 from 5:30 to 7:30.

Manning Williams on Fire:  44 Years at City Gallery Waterfront has been delayed.  Stay tuned.

Yvette Dede's "Egg Meditations" opened with a reception May 6 as part of artwalk.  It is a lovely show that is a continuation of a series she began ten years ago.  This is Dede's first show with the gallery.  The June show will be works inspired by the Lowcountry created by gallery artists.

Mary Walker has print works in two shows this summer.  She has a monotype in the show at the International Print Center New York and works in the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University show entitled "Reconsidering Regionalism."  There are some big names in the New York show and the same in Auburn as well as Lynne Riding and Lese Corrigan in the regionalism show!

The month of April was  a group show of the gallery artists entitled "Mixing Neutrals.

March 4 opened Joe Walter's "A Riff on Nests." This was the first French Quarter Artwalk of 2011. Walters is a sculptor who also creates lovely two dimensional works on paper.  His work is part of the  MUSC Contemporary Carolina Collection at the Ashley River Tower.  Three great articles on Walters' work - for his show in Sumter see Columbia's "Free Times." For his show in Charleston see Charleston City and the "Post and Courier's" Charleston Scene.

Flirting with Art at the Gibbes Museum' Society 1858 party was one of the best times had by many in quite a while.  Kristi Ryba, Mary Walker and Lynne Riding were among the 12 artists who painted semi-nude models for the event.  See a video made by the Post & Courier here.

Richard (Duke) Hagerty's artwork was the invitation piece for the Spoleto Auction this year.  The bids were wonderful - way beyond any expectations!

December artwalk featured special guests!  December 3 - come visit - Alan Jackson a local architect, David Edwards, photographer and former Gibbes Museum Studio instructor and Jack Alterman, photographer and initiator (with JD Cummings) of the Charleston Center for Photography were the visiting artists for December.

Visiting Art Basel Miami  Art Miami, Pulse, Zoom, Design Miami and South Beach was overwhelming!  Sensory overload is an understatement.

Mary Walker's newest claim to fame - following in the footsteps of William Halsey - see photos  Post & Courier and article here. Walker was commissioned by the City of Charleston to create tiles restoring the painted backdrop by Halsey of the fountain in the courtyard of the Dock Street Theatre.

November for the Charleston Fine Art Annual was a show of new works by Lese Corrigan.  The title for the exhibition is "Other Side of the River."  Corrigan painted in Washington Park with the other artists that Saturday morning after the Friday, November 5 opening.  Raising money for the Charleston County High School art departments with the auctioning of the paintings from the park is the mission of the CFADA!  Thank you to the Post & Courier, the Charleston Mercury and Carolina Arts for the coverage.

October's  show entitled "Sex and Death" with new works by Duke Hagerty brought many visitors to the gallery especially for the opening.   This solo show continues his thirty one career of exhibitions.

September 1 was the 5 year mark for Corrigan Gallery llc.  Thank you to everyone for the support, encouragement and purchases over the years.  We are still here because of you!

Mary Walker's painting "Something Cool" which inspired the August show was featured in the August Charleston Magazine and sold immediately from that! Lynne Riding and Lese Corrigan received nice mentions in the June 27 Post and Courier - visit and here.

July's show "4 Women and a Man or Two" includes works by Joe Walters who is new to the gallery - another Charleston based artist, who has created large sculptural installations for airports and hotels throughout the southeast.  He also creates paper based pieces.  Included in the show are figurative pieces by Mary Walker and Daphne vom Baur.  vom Baur is the daughter in law of Elizabeth O'Neill Verner so although she is living in Virginia, the Charleston connections remain strong.

July 16-29 Mary Walker is in a two person show called "Connections" at Julie Heller East in Provincetown. Walker had two pieces in a group show there called “I Remember” from May 21- June 3. Upstate artist Michael Slattery won 3rd place in the Piccolo Spoleto Juried Show 2010.  We are happy to show that piece and others of his Charleston series:  Security Surveillance.  These "inks" as he calls them are a mysterious mixture of photography and hand drawing. The gallery mounted a group show the beginning of June without a reception.  With extended hours during the Spoleto USA festival please call for an appointment as it will be sporadic.  Lynne Riding and Max Miller are in the group show called Contemporary Charleston 2010 at the City Gallery Waterfront through July 3.  Miller is a new artist to the gallery although and old favorite as he was a student of  Corrigan's back fifteen years ago.

May 2010 is the first solo show for Kevin Bruce Parent with his wonderful pinhole camera images of the Lowcountry in a exhibition called "Sans Lens."  There is a great article in CityPaper.

April 2 - 30  brings to the gallery a special show from visiting artist Jennifer Henriques Phillips.  This is Phillips' solo show. The show is entitled BUILDING BABYLON (is Woman's Work)[Babylon is translated as "gateway to the gods"] March 5 was a solo show of Paul Mardikian's work called "Palimpsest."February 5  brought the solo show in South Carolina for John Hull and his first Lowcountry works "Forrest at the Beach."  Despite the rain there was a nice turnout.  Kristi Ryba has a video installation being featured at SOHO20|Chelsea for the month of January. January and February the McClellanville Art Center will host a show of works by Mary Walker.

Duke Hagerty's work is hanging through February 5, 2010 at the new Bin152 (wine and cheese plus late nights)  on King Street around the corner from the gallery - nice to see several big pieces in one place!

ART of Healthy Cooking is now available. Put together by the Women's Club of the Medical University of SC, there are 25 color plates by artists in the MUSC contemporary collection including three of us from the gallery and 500 recipes in this fabulous book many contributed by the artists. Definitely the season for wonderful press for the gallery.  Visit Charleston Regional Business Journal November 23, 2009 issue for an article on Lese Corrigan and the gallery.  The fall issue of Charleston's Where Magazine included the gallery and works by (Richard) Duke Hagerty in the article on Contemporary Art in Charleston.  There was also the great piece by David Quick at the Post and Courier - a gracious a High Profile on Lese Corrigan printed on October 31, 2009.  It can be found at this link.

The 11th Charleston Fine Art Weekend raised $19000 for the Charleston County High Schools' art supplies - thank you for all the support.

Gordon Nicholson, our favorite Canadian artist is now an American Citizen!!!!

Our friend, artist and fellow instructor at the Gibbes, JD Cummings has passed away.  Through his long illness he has been a trooper and will be greatly missed.  There was a lovely memorial service Sunday, November 22 at the Charleston Center for Photography which JD helped establish.

Kristi Ryba finished a three month residency at the McCall Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, NC.  We cannot wait to see what she created.  There was an opening held in the first month. Visit here for more information.

November Charleston Fine Art Annual brought new works by gallery artists illustrating their BLUE.Please join us for a reception on Friday, November 6 and painting in the park Saturday the 7th from 9am to noon. The paintings created in the park will be auctioned off bringing in money for the Charleston County High School art departments for art supplies.  There is also a lecture at the Gibbes Museum of Art on Wednesday the 4th on Women in Art.

October brings a show of Respecting the Past - special treats from the studio of Manning Williams.  Reception is 5-8 on October 2 and is part of the French Quarter Artwalk.

Duke Hagerty is showing works at the Aiken Center for the Arts the month of October - the opening reception was October 8 - anyone in the area please visit!

Thank you for all the great conversations that sparked out of the "x"rated? show! September 1 - is the 4th anniversary for the gallery and we are celebrating by raising eyebrows. July 17 was the SOLD OUT CFADA Palette and Palate Stroll and the gallery was thrilled to be again paired with Cypress Restaurant!  Tickets were $30 for the event with 13 gallery/restaurant pairings providing tastes and libation with grand art.  Tickets were available for the first time on the website!  The ticket monies go to the CFADA art scholarship fund supporting and encouraging the artists of the future.  Gallery show is "Source" - where does our food come from?! June 4 was artwalk and the gallery  presented a group show entitled "Next is Always Relative."  Mary Walker put on white gloves and showed her lasted prints pulled atKingsnake Press upstate.

Lynne Riding's new work - Connections: An Inner Landscape opened May 1 as part of the French Quarter Artwalk. Her earlier work can be seen at the gallery at the Art Institute gallery showing her process and progress leading to the new body of work.

Mary Walker has a show at the York County Arts Council this month through June 19.  See the press for this "Hot Ticket" event. Kristi Ryba has received the McColl Center Residency (North Carolina) and will spend the fall there creating.

New artist was added to the mix in April for variety -  show entitled "Neutral and Beyond."  Allan Wendt's wonderful graphite drawings, abstract in nature and fascinating in their complexity paired with gallery artists Paul Mardikian, Manning Williams and Duke Hagerty for a fresh look. French Quarter Gallery Association artwalk from 5-8 Friday evening.

Mary Walker's new work - "On the Stage of Life" was a big hit.  Walker received  great press with a mention on the Art Knowledge News daily email blast/homepage on February 19 which goes to over 711,000 people and a profile in Charleston Magazine's March issue.

"Allons Y" - Images of France - Moore, Nicholson and Corrigan (photography, drawings and linocuts) - The show opened February 6 with lots of baguettes and kir to celebrate!

The Telfair Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia has acquired a painting by Manning Williams.  The piece is entitled "The Playground" and is pivotal in the exploration of how Williams moved from representational to abstract work.

On December 5 we celebrated the return Jennie Summerall for a month long show of new works continuing her goddess theme and expanding with male figures.

Kristi Ryba was featured on page 66 of the November 2008 issue of Charleston Magazine.  She also had a solo show at the Goodall Gallery at Columbia College.

A solo show for Carol Ezell in October brought the "Return of Japanisme to Charleston."  This local artist created paintings inspired by the Japanese masters.  Opening reception was huge as part of the French Quarter Gallery Association's artwalk and anniversary celebration.

Manning Williams:  A Visual Commentary was presented at the Florence Museum (Florence, South Carolina) for September and October 2008. This was the first museum solo show of only abstractions by Williams.

July 11 brought the third Palette to Palate of CFADA.  We were privileged to be paired with Cypress Restaurant again.  The food was wonderful and many new faces visited.

Richard (Duke) Hagerty was the 2008 Piccolo Spoleto poster artist!  Commissioned by Ellen Dressler Moryl of the City of Charleston's Office of Cultural Affairs to create the 30th anniversary poster for the festival, Hagerty's already planned May/June show became the Piccolo Spoleto Invitational show and an even bigger hit!

April 2008 brought the first ever drawing show by visiting artist John Hull, the new College of Charleston Studio Art Department head paired with new works by Manning Williams. This show entitled "Storytellers"  presents gifted weavers of tales in 2D.   People passing by stopped in their tracks to see the works.  They are equally intrigued by the two approaches to a story.

"Southern Remains," works by Gordon Nicholson and Kevin Parent opened March 7, 2008.

The Corrigan Gallery has been included in The South Carolina Arts Commission's 40 Lists Project.  "The Arts Commission is marking its 40th anniversary and the 40 Lists Project celebrates the people, accomplishments, ideas and milestones that have contributed to the arts during the past 40 years."  Read what wonderful supporters have said about us! 40 Lists Project.

February 7 we celebrated the mounting of the first show of works by Paul Mardikian.The show entitled "Totems and Icons" was filled with mysterious works on wood. This talented conservator of marine archeological finds including the Hunley is finally allowing the world to see his own creations.  Please see the great review in Charleston City Paper dated February 21.

February 1 is the unveiling of the works at the new Ashley River Tower, MUSC.  Our BIG NEWS was and is:  Eight artists represented by the gallery have had their work chosen and purchased by the Medical University of South Carolina for the new Contemporary Carolina Collection to hang in the new Ashley River Tower Visit the great website here. Works by Kristi Ryba, Mary Walker, Gordon Nicholson, Manning Williams, Karin Olah, Sue Simons Wallace, Lese Corrigan and Paul Mardikian are part of the collection. See the story The State ran.

January - Birds Bugs and Fish.  Works by Mary Walker, Manning Williams, Richard Hagerty, Sue Simons Wallace, Richard Hartnett and Candice Flewharty brighten the spirit! 2008 has arrived. Thank you to the almost 25,000 visitors and supporters who have visited the website in November 2007 (and to all for previous visits!).

November brings the gallery's participation in the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association Fine Art Weekend the first weekend in November with an opening reception Friday evening celebrating Karin Olah's new work. Saturday morning Lese Corrigan will be painting in Washington Park and the painting will be part of the auction produced by the Charleston Art Auction that evening with the plein air painting proceeds supporting Charleston County Schools' Art programs.

JD Cummings has just launched a website with a grand number of images on it and has reduced his prices to a mere pittance to make the work very accessible and to help support his battle against cancer.

December 2007 brought the show ML2CP - John Moore and Sandy Logan (visiting artist) with color photography.

BIG NEWS:  Eight artists represented by the gallery have had their work chosen and purchased by the Medical University of South Carolina for the new Contemporary Carolina Collection to hang in the new Ashley River Tower!  Works by Kristi Ryba, Mary Walker, Gordon Nicholson, Manning Williams, Karin Olah, Sue Simons Wallace, Lese Corrigan and Paul Mardikian are part of the collection.

New artists have joined the gallery.  Richard (Duke) Hagerty, the local plastic surgeon/artist has work hanging in the current group show.  His surrealistic works are reminiscent of Kandinsky and Klee's work.  Paul Mardikian, the highly trained conservator/archeologist working on the Hunley, is now showing his paintings which have been in process for twenty years. Look for pieces on the website soon and shows in the new year.

Guest artist Lynne Riding's show entitled Paying Attention to What Happens Between the Obvious - An Inquiry Concerning Transparency during September was spectacular - a beautiful and successful show for the space.

July 13 brought an evening of tasty delights for the eye and taste buds with CFADA's Second Annual Palette and Palate.  The Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association member galleries were paired with restaurants providing tastes of their specialties.  Corrigan Gallery was pleased to have been paired with Cypress Restaurant. for this, the gallery's first official event as a member!

Mary Walker has joined the gallery - her show at Footlight Players, the "Mary Walker Invitational Exhibition:  Variations on a Theme" as part of Piccolo Spoleto was a success.  Her bird collage was used on the Piccolo Spoleto Spotlight Series poster.  See more work at www.marywalkerart.com.

Gene Speer's abstract monotypes and lithographs can now be seen at the gallery.  Speer is the Master printmaker who ran the University of South Carolina Print Atelier.

Kristi Ryba's show entitled “Keeping House" has gained good attention.  There was a lovely mention in the May 9 edition of Charleston City Paper, the May issue of Carolina Arts and the April 26 issue of the Charleston Mercury for a description of the show. Visit www.kristiryba.com to see many of the pieces.  Ryba also exhibited in the Women's Caucus show at the Charleston County Library.

June, July and August were group show of gallery artists.  New working is coming in all the time through the summer.  Fall brings shows by guest artist Lynne Riding (September), Kevin Parent (October), Karin Olah (November) and John Moore and Sandy Logan (December) exploring their personal voices.

Jennie Summerall's show entitled "The Uses of Enchantment" opened  April 19 for a week's showing and was a great hit with new homes found for many paintings.  Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery has purchased her portrait of biologist E. O. Wilson.

A new artist has joined the gallery: Gordon Nicholson has delivered wonderful sepia tone watercolor "drawings" documenting architectural sites around South Carolina in various states of decay.  The drawings are overlaid with stream of conscious words in longhand.  These very modern pieces tie old to new looking like old letters with drawing notes presented as a new way to document the passage of time.

New works by Candace Flewharty and Daryl Knox were presented for the Friday, March 2 French Quarter Artwalk.

Manning Williams was featured in a front page article in the Charleston Mercury February 1 issue. His show "Fragmenting Arrogance" opened Thursday, February 8 with a huge crowd present.  He was also featured in City Paper, Preview of the Post and Courier as well as the Sunday arts' column, Charleston Business Journal Weekend Events and the Easel publication of the Charleston Artist Guild.  His work is reminiscent of that of Roy Lichtenstein but takes the abstraction much further.  View the show at the MOMA called "Comic Abstraction" www.MOMA.org to understand where his work fits in today's art world.

The gallery is pleased to announce it has been invited to join the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association. It's inclusion in the association is quite exciting!

Candice Flewharty's work from January 2-27 is in the the National Juried Exhibition juried by painter Philip Pearlstein at Prince Street Gallery on 530 West 25th New York City.

Karin Olah has been selected for the second year in a row as the Charleston Farmers' Market Poster Artist!

December artwalk featured gyotaku fish prints by Sue Simons Wallace. A huge crowd came to see the "Fresh Fish" and were amazed by the technique!

JD Cummings' abstract photographs of beach sand are now available.

Manning Williams, Charleston artist, retired art professor and recent focus of a show at the Gibbes Museum of Art, has joined the Corrigan Gallery artists' stable.  New works come in every week.  Both his pre- 1995 representational work and his abstractions can be acquired.

"Resonance," a show of new works based on the Fibonacci sequence by Lese Corrigan opened October 6 with a reception during the French Quarter Art Gallery Association Artwalk and was a lovely success.

Candice Flewharty, a Texas artist, New York trained and now living in Charleston, has joined the gallery with her small slices of life oils painted in a contemporary, photographic manner.  View her work at

Five Corrigan Gallery artists were featured in the Southern Living Idea House 2006 at Daniel Island courtesy of Margaret Donaldson Interiors.

The May 2006 edition of the Robb Report ran an article on Charleston including the Corrigan Gallery.

June 2 was the date for the solo show for Karin Olah! "The Meandering Thread" was a grand celebration of her work and accomplishments and very little of her last 20 months of work is available. The press coverage was stupendous, City Paper, Post and Courier Preview and Charleston Mercury all provided well deserved attention.

May 5 a wonderfully attended opening reception was held for the show "Light Writing, Fine Art Photography" with works by John Moore, Kevin Bruce Parent and Lolly Koon.

Karin Olah was selected for "Under The Radar," City Gallery on the Waterfront. Sponsored by Charleston Magazine and Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, this exhibition features ten emerging Charleston artists. Olah was also juried into the national show at Redux entitled "the unlikely target."

New York Times article: Real Estate|March 10, 2006 Escapes - Havens|Historic District, Charleston, S.C.: Charming and Venerable, With Kayaking Nearby By Anne Berryman mentions the gallery! Kristi Ryba was mentioned in the New York Times "Art in Review" January 27 for her work in the show "Hibernation"at Silo gallery in New York. The Queen City Classic Horse Show (Charlotte, North Carolina) 2006 poster image was by Lese Corrigan.

The official "Grand Opening" and first solo show for Beverly Derrick in her native city was held January 27, 2006 and was a smashing success with over 500 guests, collectors and artists present! The opening was mentioned in "Fine Art Connoisseur" magazine as well as the local papers and magazines. The "Charleston Mercury" did a front page article profile on Derrick.
